The showing of horses has a timeless, historic flair to it at the Nashoba Carriage Classic, held each September at the Germantown Charity Horse Show grounds. The thirteenth annual, 2011 Classic will be held October 28-30. It is a visit to another age and place!

The Nashoba Carriage Classic combines elegance, hospitality, skill and history in one exciting weekend. Activities include competitions such as arena driving, dressage, the Carriage Dog class, and the Sunday morning Magnolia Marathon, a fantastic reminder of times past.

The Arena Driving Trial on Friday night is thrilling to watch as drivers race through cones and other obstacles in timed events! Bring friends and family to witness this exciting evening—they will not be disappointed!

In the Carriage Dog Class, judging is based on the disposition and turnout of the dogs riding in the carriages.

“Sunday is special because it is the day of the Magnolia Marathon,” says Wanda Chancellor, past president of the Nashoba Carriage Association. “This is a 6K marathon through the woods. Drivers can forget they are in the city limits as they enter the hardwood forest, pass the pond, cross the creek, and enter the magnolia lined driveway of a lovely southern home!”

The marathon is one of the highlights of the weekend, and drivers enjoy the opportunity to experience a Sunday country drive as it might have been 100 years ago. Volunteers are placed in strategic locations throughout the course, and they have almost as much fun as the drivers themselves. It is an experience you won't want to miss! So if you can't bring a horse but would love to experience the world of carriage driving, come be a volunteer for the marathon or our Arena Driving Trial.

Admission is free.

About the Nashoba Carriage Association:
The Nashoba Carriage Association was founded in 1997 by a group of area horse enthusiasts who had begun driving for pleasure but wanted to become competitive as well. But not all its members have a horse.

“We have many members who are enjoying the club activities and learning before they decide to take the plunge into horse, vehicle, harness, and trailer,” says Wanda. “But I tell them to watch out: I guarantee they will get the carriage driving bug!!!”
